Amsterdam Eats

Updated: Feb 9, 2018

Besides Amsterdam's beautiful scenery and stunning streets, whats better than some photo-worthy eats? During my weekend in Amsterdam, I ate some incredible food - from breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack, you can't go wrong! My favorites were the breakfasts and snacks.

Breakfast: My first morning there, I opted for pancakes with apples and cinnamon and it was hands-down one of my favorite meals this month. Dutch pancakes are very different than the American pancakes we are used to. They are large, circular, and flat, served with different toppings. Another morning, we found a cute cafe for breakfast. I started with my usual cappuccino and ordered an omelette, croissant, and fresh "blue" juice.

Snacks: The first day, we were strolling down the street after thrift shopping and spotted a bakery called Stach. My friend, Liz, and I decided on meringues (mine was pink and glittery) and juices. The meringues were so huge, we couldn't even finish them!

We stayed on a houseboat for the weekend, and the owners of the boat left us a package of stroop waffles. Stroop waffles are two thin waffles prepared with melted honey or caramel in the middle. Later in our trip, we found a place that made them fresh and had to have them again.

On another occasion, we stumbled upon a cheesecake shop after lunch. We met the owner who had a passion for cheesecakes and owned the only cheesecake shop in Amsterdam. I was so happy to discover this place - the owner was so kind to us and the cheesecake was one of the best I've had.
